Question by Love My 3 Babies: Will Aetna cover my 18-20 week ultrasound?
I am under my husband’s insurance policy through Costco. We have Aetna PPO Freedom of Choice (we chose to have the best one because we have three little ones). Well we had the same plan with my last pregnancy (this would have been about 2 years ago) and I remember the ultrasound place telling me to check my coverage to make sure they will cover it because Aetna is “iffy” with sonograms and usually only cover one per pregnancy (I was thinking that the 8 week was considered an ultrasound but I never knew otherwise). Well, I remember calling them and they referred me to the website with the coding and as long as the right one was used regarding abnormal pregnancy I would be fine. So I went in and had the screening done and they found a hole in one of the four chambers of my son’s heart and coded based on their evaluation. Aetna covered it.

Now, I got the same response from the same ultrasound place today when I called up to make my appt for the end of this month and if Aetna wasn’t going to cover it then I would have to pay $ 995.00, however I wouldn’t know until it’s already done. I called Aetna once more and they referred me to the website to type in “ultrasound for pregnancy” in the search area. I did and this whole policy crap came up which I don’t understand what the heck it’s talking about other than pretty much summing it up that it won’t cover an ultrasound for any reason other than mulitples, or if there is a problem with the baby, or a medical problem within mom to make sure the baby is ok. I just don’t understand how you can know if anything is wrong unless you have at least one ultrasound to determine if the baby is complete? I don’t even want to find out the sex I just want to make sure baby has all of it’s anatomy.

I’ve been reading so many horror stories that Aetna won’t cover it unless they find something wrong with baby which is a horrible reason…but you still get to find out the sex. I’m beginning to wonder if the ultrasound technician just made up the hole in the heart to send to the insurance so they’d cover it, she wasn’t a bit worried and told me everything was just fine and it would clear up. When I went back to my doctor that following week they didn’t even mention a thing about the hole until I brought it up and she brushed it off as there was nothing to worry. My son is going to be 2 in Jan and hasn’t had any heart related problems whatsoever.

So I told my husband that if they won’t cover it then we are just going to use this coupon for a $ 100 3d/4d ultrasound and at least we can see what the baby looks like and I’m sure they can do a full body scan for a little more…much less than a grand.

Best answer:

Answer by Kelli – Pregnant with #1
Honestly, I’d call Aetna again, and ask for a supervisor. Tell them you don’t want a website, you want to know what is included in your plan! Don’t let them get off the phone with you. The websites haven’t done you any good so far.

Problems During Pregnancy – Not to Worry Anyway

It is quite natural and common for any women to experience different problems during pregnancy. Some problems may be easy to bear with or otherwise enjoy for the welfare of the dream-baby in the uterus. There is nothing to worry anyway, unless it is a serious thing connected to your health.

Though people raise several questions on pregnancy, there are some questions which cannot be raised thoughtlessly. They sound out-and-out awkward, and you may be in dilemma whether to raise such questions at all. For instance, you cannot discuss even with your close friend if you have problems like vaginal discharges, fishy vaginal odor or itching in the vaginal area. For some of such embarrassing situations, the consoling answer is: “To prevent problems during pregnancy is possible”.

Peeing during pregnancy:

It is usual to have problems during last trimester of pregnancy that your urethra gets dislocated. Sometimes, it gets stretched due to the pressure given by the baby with its head. With this condition, you need not worry even if the urine flow is seen whirling or the urination is wobbling.

Uncontrolled urination:

This is another embarrassing experience of uncontrolled discharge of urine when laughing, coughing, or sneezing. Such reactions are usual and commonly experienced as first trimester pregnancy symptoms. Many of the pregnancy complications during first trimester are common to occur to all pregnant women. It’s needless to worry much or to totally ignore. It may be an issue associated with your pelvic floor due to the pressure exerted by the baby in the uterus. At such times, it is better you consult your doctor or rush to a nursing care center for proper treatment for pregnancy problems.

Smelling bad odor:

This happens with the physiological changes in secretion of hormones when you get pregnant. These changes heighten your smelling sensation, and the usual smell felt normal before pregnancy is now smelt with an unpleasing bad odor. This is very common and you need nothing to feel ugly. Some women may experience bodily bad odor, and it is baseless to feel shy of it.

Passing gas or farting:

This is the most embarrassing situation which is obviously awkward to ask anyone about this problem. You should know that it is quite normal to experience increased flatulence during the three trimesters of pregnancy. The problem is simply because of slow digestion from the day you get pregnancy. So, you need not take it as a major digestive problem when pregnant.

Are you now consoled with the problems with pregnancy? Well, you can have some more essential information and descriptions of Morning Sickness During Pregnancy AND Pregnancy Healthy Eating.

(PRWEB) April 8, 2004

A new study published in the journal “Science” has demonstrated that the hormone leptin determines an individual’s desire for food. The animal study showed that shortly after birth a surge of leptin going through the brain actually sets up brain circuitry for food satisfaction. If this initial wiring of the brain does not occur properly shortly after birth, then a person could be much more likely to eat more food and have less ability to metabolize that food, making them highly predisposed for obesity.

The current study has received widespread media attention, with articles published in the “New York Times” and “Washington Post”. The fact that the lack of proper leptin function early in life can permanently change a person’s subconscious drive to eat provides solid science that obesity is not just a willpower and lifestyle issue.

The current findings are far more profound than the media is reporting, simply because the media does not understand the function of leptin as it relates to obesity. Leptin is a complex hormone. There is no such thing as “good” or “bad” leptin. Leptin must work efficiently in numerous metabolic pathways in order to have normal metabolism.

In January of 2003 we published “Mastering Leptin”, the first thorough review of leptin and how it relates to the obesity epidemic. Chapter 14 is called “Inheriting Leptin Problems – Are Your Parents Overweight?” That chapter explains the existing scientific evidence showing that leptin problems are programmed into the developing brain both in the fetus and as a young baby.

The new animal study is the first to show that the brain is actually programmed regarding appetite and food intake shortly after birth by a surge of leptin getting into the brain. It is as if the brain has a blank chalkboard regarding the need for food, since the developing infant has been living on the nutrient supply coming from the mother. After birth, a new program needs to be established. A leptin surge writes a message on the blank blackboard, saying “You will be satisfied on a reasonable amount of food intake, which in turn will enable your metabolism to run at an optimal pace.” Such programming is anti-obesity. If the leptin surge is not present then a pro-obesity message is wired in: “You will need more food than normal in order to feel satisfied, especially carbohydrates. The more food you eat, the more you will want.”

The current “Science” study is done with mice that have leptin problems. It is very groundbreaking, as mice with genetic problems causing obesity were able to change eating patterns as if they had no genetic problem. What does all this mean for humans?

Plenty. A proper surge of leptin following birth is vital for the establishment of the potential for proper appetite signals. Failing to get that surge of leptin may cause a person to be permanently wired for excess food intake in order to feel satisfied.

How does a baby get a surge of leptin? Interestingly, leptin is highly concentrated in the first milk colostrum. After 24 hours leptin levels in breast milk are significantly reduced. Thus, based on this new information, a baby failing to get the first milk colostrum could be programmed to make the wrong subconscious brain connections regarding food intake. This would predispose the baby to later life obesity. Such a problem may manifest earlier in life or may not manifest until puberty, child bearing years, or later. Any person prone to this problem will notice much more difficulty controlling weight in their 40s than individuals who do not have this problem.

Additionally, there may be factors that significantly affect the ability of the early leptin message to get into the brain. This is consistent with the knowledge that almost all overweight Americans are leptin resistant – meaning that fat cells make plenty of leptin but the hormone does not communicate to the subconscious brain because it does not get into the brain (a problem fueled by huge portions, eating at night, and snacking).

If a baby is preprogrammed to be leptin resistant, then even though the baby gets the first milk, the leptin may not get into the brain. This would occur if one or both parents were overweight at the time of conception. This means that overweight parents are passing along leptin resistance to an unborn child, i.e., a genetic predisposition to obesity.

Certain situations like premature delivery may significantly interfere with proper leptin development. This is especially true if the baby is overfed in an effort to gain weight too rapidly. This would also apply to any infant that is overfed. In other words, overfeeding as a young person creates leptin resistance wherein the subconscious brain thinks there is a scarcity of food, and programs the body for slow metabolism that lasts a lifetime.

Another problem would be some type of toxic stress to the subconscious brain occurring during or shortly after birth that traumatizes the developing brain so it is not able to write the proper leptin message on the blackboard. Common examples of such stress would be toxemia of pregnancy, oxygenation of the brain problems due to stressful delivery (cord getting wrapped), or jaundice (excess bile acting as a powerful toxin in the developing brain).

Thus, there are four key factors that govern the predisposition to obesity that can now be identified. They are:

1) Getting a proper leptin message into the brain from mother’s first milk.

2) Parents who are themselves overweight and leptin resistant.

3) A medical problem that induces stress to the subconscious brain that inhibits the message from being written properly.

4) Overfeeding as an infant.

Since these factors are all out of the unborn child’s control, it seems quite prudent that parents and medical authorities get up to date on this vital issue. Our society needs to take fast action not only to correct the current obesity epidemic, but also to prevent the transfer of this epidemic to unwitting children. This is no time to be dragging feet. Leptin problems are real and there is plenty of science to back them up. The new science is showing that there are new responsibilities for parenthood. The future health of any child is significantly affected by any leptin-related problems a parent may have.

Acne During Pregnancy

All pregnancies are filled with nine months of different feelings and emotions. Some days will be happy days, some days you may feel overwhelmed, sad, tired, or confused. Most days you will glow with excitement just knowing that your bundle of joy is on the way. It’s completely natural to have all of these feelings during your pregnancy.

There’s a lot of changes occurring in your body right now. Don’t be surprised and don’t think they’re abnormal. Especially if you notice acne during pregnancy. Don’t worry! When your baby is born and your hormones are back to normal, acne will go away.

What can you do in the meantime to keep acne at bay? First, it’s important to tell you that over the counter treatments are not recommended. Pregnant women should NEVER use any kind of pill, cream, product on their body unless directed by a doctor. Keep yourself and your baby safe. Run everything by a medical doctor prior to use. The safest acne remedy during pregnacny? Good ole’ water. It’s cheap, safe, and practical. It will hydrate your body and skin, keep you feeling fresh, and it’s good for your baby. By drinking water, you’re fighting acne during pregnancy. Water flushes impurities our of your body.

Right now is one of the most important times to watch your dietary intake. If you’re used to drink soda and coffee, now may be the time to ban them. Caffeine is known to promote acne during pregnancy, cause headaches, and excite your unborn baby.

Water and natural juices are the best option for you. This will aid you in your fight against acne during pregnancy. Stress too, is also a contributor of acne during pregnancy. If you’re feeling overwhelmed take a time-out for yourself. Whether you take a walk, read a book, or listen to some good music, these are all positive stimulations for you and your baby. Afterwards, you’ll feel more collected and your stress should dissipate some.

Pregnant women all vary in their food cravings. One woman may crave raw vegetables where another may want cheeseburgers every day. Pay attention to your food cravings and don’t give into your body every time! Especially if you’re craving fast foods, fried foods, and foods that are greasy in nature. These are providers of acne during pregnancy. If you’re looking for other advice from pregnant women, there are pregnancy books and pregnancy forums for women who experience such things as acne during pregnancy. You may make a friendship and find all the acne tips you need!

Once you pregnancy is over, and you have a lovely child, it would wise to search for an anti-DHT solution to address your skin. You see, once the hormonal change in your body are complete, you will still need to address the buildup of oils in the skin, which is caused by DHT in the skin.

My cycle began on March 5th. I am irregular, but it usually lasts 32-38 days. I had sex on the 14 and 23rd. On Sunday night(30th) – Tuesday night (48 hours) I had what i thought was implantation bleeding. Mostly very light pink spotting, didn’t need a pantyliner, and sometimes it came with cm. After that ended, Wed.-Sat.(today) I have had a lot of discharge. Mostly semi-clear with white milky streaks in it…so i guess mostly white. I was just wondering if it could have been ovulation bleeding instead…or if someone has experienced this in early pregnancy. I have never experience bleeding before my period or this heavy discharge. I am waiting until next week to take and hpt but would just like your opinion. Thanks in advance

Best answer:

Answer by Librawriter
Every woman is different. The only way I ever knew I was pregnant was when my period skipped a month and I went to take a test. Other than that, I was symptom-less. So you just should take a test.

Finally, an excellent eBook that is brimming with common sense and usable material. This eBook speaks in clear laymen terms you will be able to understand to get what you need in order to have a healthy pregnancy and ultimately a healthy baby.

There is no time in your child’s life that nutrition is going to be as important as it is right now, before it has even drawn its first breath.

Proper nutrition and good health are a vital part of having a healthy pregnancy, preventing many major birth defects and decreasing your chance of delivering a premature or low birth weight baby.

Since your baby is obviously incapable of eating by itself at this point in time, they are going to get all of the nutrients they need to grow and develop properly from the foods that you eat.

That means you have to make sure you’re eating enough for both of you-and not just in empty calories either!

For the next nine months the nutrients that you take in are going to have to sustain both your health and that of your baby, so it’s essential that you make sure you’re getting enough of the necessary vitamins and minerals for both of you.

Your Prenatal Vitamins Aren’t Enough!

Many women read the section above and think, ‘I’m taking my prenatal vitamins like my physician told me, and I’m trying to eat healthy. Do I still have to worry about my nutrition?’

The answer to that is ABSOLUTELY.

But, there is a reason that prenatal vitamins are called nutritional supplements.

On their own they’re not sufficient to ensure that your baby grows and develops properly. That’s why it’s vital that you understand what you need to do during your pregnancy to keep both you and baby healthy.

There is no time in your child’s life that nutrition is going to be as important as it is right now, when it hasn’t even drawn its first breath. Proper nutrition and good health are a vital part of having a healthy pregnancy, preventing many major birth defects and decreasing your chance of delivering a premature or low birth weight baby.

Since your baby is obviously incapable of eating by itself at this point in time they are going to get all of the nutrients they need to grow and develop properly from the foods that you eat. That means that you have to make sure that you’re eating enough for both of you-and not just in mean calories either! For the next nine months the nutrients that you take in are going to have to sustain both your health and that of your fetus, so it’s essential that you make sure you’re getting enough of the necessary vitamins and minerals for both of you.

Question by Stacy H: Which week should I be looking in?
Yesterday marked eight full weeks of being pregnant. When I look at the “pregnancy week by week” calendar to find out what’s happening with the development, do I look at week eight or week nine? Technically, if I’m now eight weeks and one day, wouldn’t that be the ninth week?

Best answer:

Answer by TrYiN hArD
congratulations on your great news!!:) but no your not in your 9th week until the day after 8weeks and 6days so look at the eight week calendar:)
